"What makes a great community to you?"
We are proud to launch the Institute of Community Making - a new for-purpose platform to advance community making as a software-first model for Generative Community Impact.
Our launch event was graced by the Secretary for Housing Ms Winnie Wing Yin Ho and Urban Renewal Authority 市區重建局's Managing Director Mr. Ir Wai Chi-sing. Together with Francis Ngai and Florence Cheng, they shared their personal childhood community stories, and the strides we can take to enrich our neighbourhoods. Some takeaways from the dialogue include:
𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫: Empower “gaaifong” to be the changemaker in their own ways. Change is made when everyone is “Feel with Heart”!
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭: Be open to build partnerships with unusual allies and keep experimenting.
𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬: Start with simply saying ‘Hi’ to security guards working at the building you live in every morning. Don’t underestimate the power of the 0.5% improvement you've made each day - you will have improved by 6 times after a year!
We were heartened to see the sense of camaraderie among audience and speakers - as we aspire to become an Advocate for resource sharing, a Network of cross-sector practitioners and a Curator to activate pilot community projects, we call for your support to share your very own ups and downs in your community making journey. If you're keen on sparking your own initiatives to create thriving neighbourhoods in Sham Shui Po or Kwun Tong, we'd love to connect!
A massive shoutout also to our Task Force (Francis Ngai, Florence Cheng, Harmony Li, Christy Leung, Stephanie Yui Man Kwong) and advisors:
